Dear Ms. Whitson,

I am working on methods for deacidification of library materials.
Towards that purpose, I plan on gathering interested parties to work in
developing the process ideas further. I just recently became aware of
the BAPNet group. Interest in mass deacidification appears to have
waned considerably since the 1970's and 80's, but this may be due in
part to the lack of a simple, economical method as well as limited budgets
for preservation.

As background, I developed and patented the "Bookkeeper" process
while working at the Kopper's Company in 1985. That process now
belong to Preservation Technologies in Pennsylvania with which I am not
connected. That method has been recently awarded a four-year
contract with the Library of Congress, but it has developed into one that
is fairly complex and expensive to use. I believe that a simple, safe,
economical method, one that is amenable to treating in-house, can be
developed.

Is it possible for you supply me with additional information of BAPNet? I
do have colleagues in the Bay Area who may be able to attend your next
meeting. Is the topic of mass deacidification still relevant to the
library and archive interests? or to BAPNet? I would like to aggressively
pursue this process and ultimately develop it to a stage where it can be
used by anyone who would like to help stabilize their bound and
unbound paper collections. Any assistance or contacts with persons in
the Bay Area who have an interest in a project of this type would be
greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you are able to provide.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Kundrot
