Kodak VHS tape was made by a Japenese company. I believe it was TDK.
Peter Adelstein and Fred Kolb were both involved in the earlier attempt by
Kodak to make tape. Their failure probably had to do with their approach to
making film. At Ampex, the tape formulators came from Sherwin-Williams and
I
am not kidding. They treated it like mixing pigments. The tape
manufacturing machinery came from the newspaper industry.
