Re: [AV Media Matters] comments on DVD burners please

Carl,

I will warn you that we tried several models and several different
SCSI cards and could never get any of the DVD writer models to work
with PCs. Maybe the situation is changed now. This was several
months ago. Based on almost two months of trial and error, I have
concerns about DVD RAM writers still for compatibility with future
machines, etc. for opening files. We kept one DVD writer--the Cue,
I think, for use on a Mac, although we haven't had reason to use it
yet, so I can't say if I would recommend it. I still feel that
master digital video needs to be uncompressed native files (AVI or
MOV). MPEG2 is very high quality but still lossy compression, so we
are forced to store our masters on the server (sigh). We don't keep
copies of use copies beyond those housed on the video server for
streaming to the web.
