PTC Engineering in Temecula CA does recoat capstans, and such for
instrumentation recorders.  I imagine they could take an old wire recorder
part and renew the rubber as well with a modern elastomer.  If you just want
it functional, and not the exact material of the old, this would work.  I
imagine the durometer of the rubber would be similar to modern eleastomer
capstan coating material.  The other idea is to look for rubber parts at
Small Parts Inc. in Fla, a general supplier of small gears, belts, chains,
and other mechanical engineering small parts.
