[AV Media Matters] "I Can Do It!" Type replies - policy

The last email on dictabelts brought forward the issue of replies to the
list stating that you can provide a specfic service of one sort or
another. The reality is that MANY people on this list probably can
perform many services of one sort or another. I think that the point
here is that for these type of questions you should respond directly to
the party interested in the services - consider it a hot sales lead -
and everyone who wishes to be considered can reply to the potential job.
Of more interest to the list would be some particular INSIGHT that you
can provide all of us on doing a particular type of job. For instance -
saying that you do it but use a particular type of modified anvil would
be of more interest and "on topic" and has higher utility for the list.

I am always going to let "I need help on" type postings on the list
because they are legitimate issues for the list and we can learn from
SUGGESTED TECHNIQUE in dealing with them - and after all they ARE sales
opportunities and the expert group on the list needs to make a living
too - so why not. BUT I will not be allowing simple sales solicitations
to be posted onto the list - simply approach the poster off list on your
own.
