Re: [AV Media Matters] Dry tape squeal...
Hello Steven,
The original intent of CL-S was a replacement for Freon TF which, as you
know,
is no longer made. Freon TF was widely used as a cleaning agent in the
Professional tape markets and, as a CFC, had the reputation of contributing
to
the depletion of the ozone layer. Like Freon TF, CL-S is more of a
flushing
agent than a solvent and Maxell does state that it should be applied
subsequent
to normal cleaning procedures, using a new, clean applicator.
Please contact Maxell at (800) 533-2836 and ask for Pat Byrne, at extension
5922. She will provide you with a spec sheet and any other information you
may
want.
A testimonial that does come to mind is a fellow named Sid Friedman who was
responsible for the transfer and archive project for NBC, New York. Mr.
Friedman has since founded his own company, New Era Technology, and has a
fairly
substantial collection of Broadcast recording formats.
He can be reached at (201) 894-8008, or email him at sidfried@aol.com.
Their
website is archivepix.com.
I do not know if this solution was tested with acetate base tape and will
have
to ask the folks responsible for it's existence. However, as CL-S is
intended
for application to transport components, it is most likely that it should
perform very well regardless of basefilm material.
