Hello Tony,

Most companies that manufacture Beta SP and Digital Beta tapes only
manufacture
one grade of tape for each format.  While Sony does manufacture the UVWT
series
tapes for the UVW recorders, a quick glance at their specs shows that the
only
difference between the BCT and UVWT products is the Drop Out count.

The topic of special Archive Grade tapes does come up regularly at the SMPTE
Committee meetings and I have
stated that there are tape companies that would entertain the prospect of
tapes
specifically designed for archiving purposes.  However, to date, there has
been
little interest in a quantity committment from end users after hearing the
price
differential these products would command.
