Pioneer has been the only company making DVD-R machines but I
believe NEC is now making one.
I don't know anyone who has used a DVD-R machine so I do not know
about software issues.
Chemical stability depends on how the disc is made.
What we need is an independent test group, sort of like Consumers
Union, that would run tests on discs and tapes and publish an annual
report.
