Re: [ARSCLIST] Fw: Decca/London phase 4 stereo series

The UK ones are the best, these are just an interesting take,so to speak, and worth picking up if you see them cheap.

Interestingly I have read that the Decca phase 4 records are preferred to the London pressings for sound quality.  This was said by English collectors of course.  Evidently the London pressings were boosted in the mid range.
I am going to try a back to back with a few of which I have both outputs and see if my equipment and ears can detect a difference.
Anyone else tried this.
Terence

Are you aware that there are London Phase 4 titles from the mid to late 60s that were pressed by RCA in the US ?I have four of these SPC21011,21017.21024,and 21026. These are deep groove RCA pressings.1s to 3s stampers, all from Indianapolis.I have three non Phase 4 Londons from the late 60s,of HvK and Ansermet, that were also pressed by RCA.One of these has a sleeve that says "Manufactured Exclusively for Members of The RCA Record Club."

They sound a lot like the RCA/Decca Reader's Digest set of a few years earlier.

The RCA pressed Deutsche Gramophons of the same period, are an improvement,BTW.

You are right of course, I forgot about the South American production although I didn't know where in South America it happened. Thanks for enlightening me.

I have also seen them from Brazil and Argentina.I have the Dorati Strauss waltzes from Brazil LLN 7185,with a publication date of 1970 on the cover,on the white label with a blue cross.

I would love to know the answers to that myself.
The whole Decca/London Phase 4 series records are very scratchy to say the least, which is why I started my own list.
They were produced in South Africa, Rhodesia, Australia, USA, UK and latterly, in Germany and Holland.
see: http://thephase4stereo.blogspot.com/

I even have a frank Chacksfield in Phase 4 from China with Chinese writing on it. This is a real oddball as it claim to be 4 channel QM as well.

Terence

Actually what I am looking for,is discographical information about the later years of Phase 4.

Was the series discontinued before Decca went digital ? What was the last recorded title ?

Not selling but am prepared to find duplicates of anything specific you want.
Which release for Stokowski's 90th are you referring to.
I have an interesting "phase 4 world of Stokowski released in Holland. but that was released a bit earlier I think. Number 6835 605. It's in my bunch of oddballs.

Are you selling them or what ?

I am pretty much aware of all of these, except that I am a little fuzzy on some of the later titles conducted by Miklos Roza, and Bernard Hermann.

When the Stokowski 90th birthday concert was first issued, was it only issued as a radio promo ? Every copy I have seen has "NOT FOR SALE" printed on the labels. Some have a hole punched in the box,and some have a white London Records promotional sticker on the box.I have never seen one that is a commercially issued copy.
