To me, there is one basic requirement. This is the ability to directly
record a standard Wave file so that the recording stands a reasonable chance
of being accessible in the future without requiring any kind of conversion
no matter what platform or application is available. If it's worth
recording, it's worth recording in a manner that can be played back
universally.

You don't buy a car even to drive to the grocery store that doesn't have
easily available tires!
