Re: [ARSCLIST] An option for some folks wanting to put their vinyl into their computer

I got the Numark usb unit as a Christmas gift, and have used it several
times to digitize old favorite LPs that don't seem to be available at a
reasonable price on cd, or at all on cd. The attraction for me of this unit
is that it is essentially plug and play. It came with Audacity, which has
been fairly easy to use. These units are certainly not
professional/audiophile grade, but the LPs being transferred are also not so
hot. I think the units fill a niche. I have LPs that I have owned for many
years, some for as long as 50 years. I really enjoy the ability to be able
to take a semi obscure recording that I have enjoyed for years, and change
it to a portable format. I'm not trying to make a commercial grade
recording; I just want to listen to the music somewhere other than the
living room. This exercise is very similar to transferring an LP to a
cassette, except that you could almost always make a better cassette than
you could buy. It may be that, in some cases, you can make a better cd than
you can buy.
