You can't legitimately compare how the industry operated during the singles
era to how it operated in the heyday of selling albums.
I understand artist royalties only became SOP in the early 1950s and
producers' royalties didn't become common until the late '60s after the
industry had moved from primarily selling singles to primarily selling
albums.
