Above link is to a pretty funny Google computerized attempt at translation to English. Still, info about 78's being discontinued in 1963 came across the digi-void clearly.

Anyone know if there was an official cut-off date among the major pressing plants in the USA? As I said, I know there were still kiddie record 78's being cut and pressed in the mid-60's.

I don't know which 78rpm was the very last one in Japan, but as far as I know, all Japanese companies stopped selling 78rpms in the year 1963.
