Re: [ARSCLIST] Barber of Bagdad question

Correct, but why does the label (on the English Columbia pressing..I haven't seen the Angel) call it "The Mottl Overture to The Barber of Bagdad"?

Aleikim Salaam!

There were two overtures to the opera, both by Cornelius. One in B minor came earlier than the one on the record. Liszt gets into the arrangement act also. See the footnote to the entry in WERM.

I find the whole work delighful with a fun ending. Saalam alleikum!

Peter Cornelius: The Barber of Bagdad (Angel/Eng. Columbia, 1956) concludes with an overture that is listed on the jacket as "Overture in D Major" and credited to Cornelius, but on the label it's listed as "The Mottl Overture". So which is it?
