Another nice thing to do is have a dedicated machine for this. I have an old TEAC with the head block removed so the tape won't snag.

Yup, just give it a half twist as you thread it in the machine. Those were the
instructions in the old Scotch tape boxes when some machines took B-wind and
you bought A-wind tape.
