Please join us for presentations by Janet Gertz, Director of
Preservation for the Columbia University Libraries, and Tanisha Jones,
Moving Image Archiving and Preservation (MIAP) Research Fellow in the
Barbara Goldsmith Preservation and Conservation Department at New York
University Libraries.

Agenda:

*  Janet Gertz will present on the progress of a Mellon Foundation
funded 2 year project to develop and test a survey instrument to
inventory and assess the physical condition and intellectual control of
audio and moving image materials. As of June 2007 about 30,000 items
will have been surveyed.

*  Tanisha Jones will present on NYU's "Developing Principles and
Methodologies for Moving Image and Audio Preservation in Research
Libraries" project which seeks to test the validity of 1) video and
audio tape condition predictions based on correlating findings from
visual inspection with those of playback inspection and 2) the use of
random sampling methodology as a methodology for assessing archival
audio/visual materials.

Janet and Tanisha will also discuss the evolving collaboration between
Columbia University Libraries and New York University Libraries and how
these 2 projects have joined together to develop a freely accessible
tool for comprehensive archival audio/visual inventory, assessment, and
preservation prioritization.
