Re: [ARSCLIST] Stadium Symphony Orchestra concerts

Oops. Fergit it. The concerts are post NYPhil.

On the other hand, the Beethoven Triple are Phil members as is the Rosenker.

The Piero Weiss may be the jewel. He was an awfully important teacher who left few recordings, even informal ones.

Regarding the Lewisohn concerts:

There are about 18 Stadium Symphony Orchestra concerts
in the Voice of America Music Library Collection at
the Library of Congress, which I just cataloged last
week. They were recorded and broadcast on WNYC. They
range from the summers of 1957-1960. Do a title
search under "Lewisohn Stadium concert" in the LOC
catalog (catalog.loc.gov) to find them.

Here are some highlights:

Performances by conductors Josef Krips, Alfred
Wallenstein, Alexander Smallens, Max Rudolf, Julius
Rudel, Leonard Bernstein, Carlos Chavez, Pierre
Monteux, Alfredo Antonini, and Thomas Scherman.

Leonard Bernstein, John Corigliano, Sr., and Laszlo
Varga appeared in Beethoven's Triple Concerto.

Piero Weiss playing Mendelssohn's first Piano
Concerto; Michael Rosenker, playing Mendelssohn's
Violin Concerto in e minor.

Licia Albanese and Richard Tucker performing an
all-Puccini program.

A couple of performances by pianist Henri Deering,
including Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor.

Claudio Arrau playing the Brahms first piano concerto.

Caveat: There is a some airplane noise on some of
these performances.
