Well, it's really all MY fault.  But now I know what decks are the 
"best" or whatever that means.  There are guys who really like those 
early Ampex units, but they're too demanding for me (too much to go 
wrong).  I suppose they have a tube sound that adds something.  There 
seems to be a growing trend to take a 1/4" 2 track to use in mastering 
to get "that sound", which is tape saturation, apparently.
