Actually, I was referring to rock in particular. There is indeed a
wealth of such adventure in other musical areas. I should have been
clearer... :>)

There are plenty of people playing good music on a variety of
instruments. Many are grouped under the vague heading of "World Music".
For example, the Symmetric Orchestra.
