George Brock Nannestad's response to Don Cox, as well as Cox's original
posting,  pretty much sums up facts about impulse response of a device under
test (DUT) and deconvolution of a signal which has already passed through
this device. I'd only like to add that, while this method is scientifically
sound, there still is the blunt fact that if the DUT filters parts of the
audio spectrum to the point that the resultant levels are infinitesimal,
especially compared to the surface noise of the disk, then no amount of
deconvolution can restore these frequencies.
