With difficulty you can reel these up, without using the slot.  It takes
practise.  Otherwise, your only real alternative is the go with 10.5 inch reels
and hubs.  There are places around where you can purchase 2nd hand metal
flanges and it may be worth your while looking locally as to what you can get.
