Re: [ARSCLIST] Not using headphones

I do have a recording of about an hour of one class. I'll have to listen to it again, but I doubt there is much there. I always felt he was careful not to teach us too much. No mic technique, nothing about the equipment we were sitting next to in the studio or how anything worked.

If you are looking for antidotes of sessions he was involved with, there were very few of those also. I do remember one about recording the Hour with Ramsey Lewis Trio album. The producer wanted to place a baffle between Ramsey and his piano as they always had done. Malcolm talked him out of it. What a great call. I love the "singing" Ramsey does on that album. Malcolm was also very proud of the fact that there truly is an hour of music on that LP.

The only other story I remember is how he kicked a man in the chest to get the guys heart going again after the guy was electrocuted.

Boy, I sure wish some had recorded the Chisholm classes! There would be some knowledge for the ages there.

I took Malcolm's classes also. He could say the most cryptic things with no further explanation.

I'd been taught early in my career that singers will sing flat when using headphones. The reason was explained to me many years ago, but I couldn't explain it to you today.

In typical fashion, the late Malcolm Chisholm of Chess told our class years
ago: "Headphones are flat", then moved on to the next topic. We all looked
at each other in disbelief.
