He sure has, although some if not all of that work was probably done
while John was at Grandy -- his father's company.

John has said more than once that each Stephens 2" 40-track head he
built took a year off of his life. 

Fortunately (1) he didn't make many and (2) that's just an expression.
;-)

I'd love to get one of your brother's machines into my lab someday to
see what it can do. The elegance of design and sound quality of those
machines is legendary.
