find out how close the lightning cane to striking you personally by
counting seconds ("a thousand one, a thousand two, usw.") and
figuring each five seconds is a mile from you (including vertical
distance, which is often forgotten!).

Second basic rule...if you actually hear the lightning bolt itself
(which sounds like "szzt!"), feel your pulse to see if it struck you!
