I believe PDF 1.6 is used for the search capabilities. AFAIK, unlike 
Word, Acrobat does not support saving in an early version of PDF. At 
least, if it's possible, I don't have the means of doing it.

I prefer 4.0 with which I create PDFs, but run 7.05 (now upgrading to 
7.07) when needed. By saving the target of the link, the full file was 
donwloaded and is now readable and printable in 7.05.
