Re: [ARSCLIST] "Aircheck" history
This quote is from Encarta.com:
air check
air check (plural air checks)
noun
Definitions:
recording of advertisement: a recording of an advertisement, kept for
reference purposes.
This leads one to believe it was a term that came out of commercial
agencies to check on the airing and have proof of their commercials, but
this is supposition on my part. It must have later been expanded to its
more general use of recording broadcasts in general from off the air.

What is the genesis of the term "aircheck" and how did it come to mean
"off-air recording", or did it mean something different at another time?
