I don't belong to a lot of lists, but this is the only one with the problem frequently. It's just carelessness and it should be avoided. Not to be a stickler, but I think it's very rude to put words in someone's mouth, just as it's rude to take someone's words out of context. In any other age, common civility would dictate that care would be taken before anyone is quoted by name. I am sure people in this forum care very much about being accurate and careful in their preservation work or writing or collecting, because there are wonderful examples of it all over the place. I'm just asking for the same standards of manners, care and respect be exercised online.

It is something to be lived with. The Internet gave up on standard email protocols long ago. I wish we could go back to teleprinters!
