Some of my mastering clients haven't had the slightest problem licensing obscure historical material the majors didn't consider worth reissuing at very reasonable terms. Modern communications technology makes locating owners a far more trivial process than it has ever been in the past.

I keep reading about all these "problems" yet the people I know seem to have no problem at all obtaining licenses and no problem getting better terms than a compulsory license when they take the trouble to contact a music publisher directly.
