Easier, yes, by easy...not in my experience. I guess it depends on how
obscure. We recently issued a disc of Casella and Respighi
playing...Casella and Respighi. Along with the Welte transfers we issued,
we included some sides Respighi and his wife made in Argentina for Victor.
Not having a current contact at Victor, I tried the email approach and a
letter. No response. Then, as I was rereading the GATT treaty I
discover...how wonderful Argentina (I think it was Argentina) was not a
participant in that treaty. So I issued the recordings with "big
brother" ERMA's blessings

My experience has been indeed, sometimes dealing directly with publisher,
versus going through Harry Fox will give you a better deal. Boosey, who in
the past has had a history of being the worst, negotiated with us on the
release of our two disc set of the music of Ginastera...we also sent them
50 promo copies for free. If your title is short, you still have a minimum
to pay through the Fox agency, hence a disc with short titles can cost you
much more than a disc of equivalent length with one or two titles.

However, in my own experience, if a title is listed with the Fox Agency,
some music publishers don't want to take the time to deal with you
directly...at least not with a small operation like ours.
