----- in great likelihood they are pressed from the original negatives,
bypassing and the preceding the manufacturing steps of mother and stamper.
This means that these pressings are as close to the original sound recording
(if direct to disc) that you will get. Decca in England did this for in-house
evaluation of LPs. I have a number of their very small-run pressings from
some 1950s classical recordings.
Were the commercial issues

----- this is unlikely, unless they were short of presses. Trimming as such
would not be uneconomical, because the trimmings would be recycled.
