Well...as I sadly discovered about 50 years ago, when looking for
UX-299 tubes, electronic parts disappear rapidly once the demand
drops! And, since I suspect the chips used in auto-system
applications weren't generic types (wonder why they didn't use
8088's?), there is likely to come a time when a certain chip is
simply nowhere to be found. Vintage-auto restorers could hand-
fabricate replacement parts using machine tools...but it's hard
to hand-fabricate a semiconductor chip! (or a 6N6, for that
matter...)
