At this point,my only remaining sources, are eBay,and the local flea market.Noone else had had any good stuff for years.(And I still buy some new vinyl.)I collect two categories of 78s, classical, and R&B/early rock. There was a guy who came to the flea market last year.He was a horn gramophone collector, who had gone to shows/auctions for decades. He was one of these guys, who would go around at the end,and buy leftover 78s,by the boxlot, and finally decided to get rid of them.He had over 100,000.He set up at the flea market, selling 78s,at two bucks a pop.He did this for about four months. He had seven,of us "regulars",who would buy 10-30 records a week.I bought, mostly classical, but I found a Gene Vincent,in E(+),and one or two good postwar R&B,every week.So one day,he announes he would no longer be coming to the flea market any more. Two months ago,I go to an antique mall,I never go to,and there he is sorting his records. He tells me he needs money for medical bills. H!
is
son,who sells antiques, but not records on eBay,and will start selling record for him.He has been in contact,by email, with dealers, who gave him pricing guidelines. Now eBay,itself,is the best place to buy,if you look enough.Amoung my purchases in the past few months, have been King 4276"Grandma Plays The Numbers"($6.00),Columbia(UK) DB4178"Move It"-Cliff Richard ($9.00),Atomic A-215 "Atomic Cocktail" ($4.00),all E,or better.

US Beatle Lps,are some of the scarcest ones around.(The originals being
amoung the most common.) ,especially the 1988 purple labels. They were
replaced,by the UK versions, don't you see.I do think we've seen the last of
dumping dad's,or grandpa's records,at the thrift stores.This was,how I put
together,a collection of thousands of good classical 78s,and Lps,in the
80s,and 90s.Including rare Martzy,Devy Erlih,etc. .Remember,the people, who
put on estate sales do this for a living, they are not going to let anything
get by them. You will find beter deals,on eBay,if you look.

This is true of classical 78's (which were often cherished and
well cared for, and as well are usually ignored by general-public
buyers) but it has been years since I have seen any interesting
popular 78's at yard sales or thrift stores (I know there are
occasionally forties/fifties 78's, but I said "interesting!"...
I wonder where they go?!
