If you have a record with very uneven wear (not uncommon), the stereo 
cartridge is a real plus.  With a record that has fairly even wear in both 
channels, the TRUE mono cartridge can be a godsend.  They will reduce 
vertical noise by 27dB or so.  Check out this page (and I recommend the 
DL-102 very highly, if you have a massive enough tonearm).
