Re: [ARSCLIST]

500+ eBay transactions (sales and purchases, about even numbers of each),
one bad experience. I've had worse luck at the grocery store! My opinion is
the key is discipline -- know what something's worth and don't pay more. If
you get outbid, go drink that scotch and laugh at the guy who got ripped off
and, if you know the seller, toast his good fortune. The prime directive of
ebay -- there will always be another one for sale.

eBay is a God send to anyone looking for old playback equipment and
spares... But I must say that in order not to 'get skunked' (nicely put
!) I always seem to end up having a good bit of my time invested on
research on the seller and the gear. Last month I got a lovely set of
used monitor speakers off eBay, and the deal was excellent. So were the
speakers when they arrived. That said, it isn't for the timid, is it ?

Hi, Lou,

Part of the challenge with doing old tape restoration is that we have
old tape recorders. Parts, accessories, and entire machines are often
only available on eBay. I've paid $100 or less for several NOS Studer
Play Heads...but prices are going up.

I don't always like it, and I got skunked once -- and my only negative
feedback -- on a Nakamichi Dragon. But where else can you buy a Dragon?

I'm not saying to buy stuff you can buy at Sweetwater or Full Compass on
eBay, but I'll admit that I did get my second RME Multiface on eBay for
several hundred less than Sweetwater and the seller knew what he was
doing, he even downloaded the latest drivers and put them on a CD so I'd
be happy.

Cheers,

Richard
