One important point:

Whatever is being used as an analog signal source must have a
line-level output. This means that disc players using modern
magnetic cartridges will require pre-amplification. Tape decks
offering "Line Out" jacks, and 78 players using ceramic
cartridges, will provide necessary signal levels for input
into your sound card's "Line In" connection.
