FRED manufactured by Lyrec of Denmark had no capstan and all
tension and correct speed was obtained by controlling only the
tension at the two reels. It was a fabulous editing machine. Check
their web-site www.lyrec.dk. The company would potentially still be
able to manufacture it, provided enough pre-paid customers turned
up for a batch.
