alternative cadenzas...what recordings of the Beethoven 4th Concerto
feature the Brahms cadenzas...does the soloist sing the aria as written or
transposed...etc.
I am reminded of the "cataloging" system we use at our radio station.
It is specific to the needs of broadcasting...last time the selection was
played...sorts are given by duration of performance, etc.
What I find most interesting is the increased role of the recording in
musicological research...and...in many respects the "bibliographic
control" of audio and its history provides an interesting perspective at the
attempts at "bibliographic control" of any electronic information.
