----- I think that anyone who wishes to discuss analog vs. digital
should do some reading up on the subject. One of the best papers
on the subject was actually published in the dawn of the
commercial CD. I refer to Peter B. Fellgett: "Some comparisons of
digital and analogue audio recording", The Radio and Electronic
Engineer [a British journal], Vol. 53, No. 2, pp. 55-62 (February
1983). This paper has enormous perspective and it predicts some
of the improvements that have been made much later. It also puts
the idea of a staircase function to represent a smooth function on a
firm ground. There is no reason to doubt Prof. Fellgett's knowledge
of matters audio - together with Michael Gerzon he developed the
Ambisonics system and the Soundfield microphone.

Kind regards,

George
