OPEN POSITION

DATE: June 2001

TITLE: Local Television Project, Project Manager

SALARY RANGE: Salary, $35,000, one year, subject to renewal for second year

TYPE OF POSITION: Approximately half time for 2 years

START DATE: Approximately September 1, 2001

The Project Manager will act as the coordinating authority under the direction of the Steering Committee for the Local Television Project, reporting to the co-chairs of the Local Television Task Force.

The Project Manager will be responsible for implementing the Local Television Initiative, including overseeing logistical operations, executing project mailings, writing reports, administering the project funds, scheduling and coordinating deadlines, working with the Working Groups and the case study writers, assisting in editing the case studies and ensuring overall stylistic and format uniformity, overseeing the printing of the case studies, distributing the initial case studies drafts as well as the final published versions, organizing the symposium, plus other responsibilities as assigned by the Task Force Steering Committee. The Steering Committee and Working Group members will consult with the Project Manager on the selection of writers for the case studies and the preparation of letters of agreements with the writers.

Working with the Steering Committee, the Project Manager will be required to help raise additional project funds for the project. No additional federal funds may be sought for this project. Applicants for the position will need to have fundraising and grant writing skills in areas other than federal funding. Applicants will need experience in project management, event planning, editing and publishing. A background in archives and/or television production is desirable as is experience working with non-profits and volunteers.

Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs helpful. Other duties as appropriate may be assigned by the Local Television Project Steering Committee.

The Local Television Steering Committee anticipates that it will require the Project Manager's services for approximately 20 hours per week. However, the actual services shall consist of specific tasks or results to be achieved and shall be performed at mutually agreeable times on an as-needed basis. The Local Television Project Manager will be expected to attend AMIA conferences in 2001 and 2002 (Portland, Oregon, and Boston, Mass, respectively). Travel costs have been incorporated into project budget.

The work of the Project Manager will be home-office based, and applicants will need to provide their own phone, fax, computer, email and Internet access. Office facilities will not be provided by either AMIA or NATAS. The Project Manager shall act as an independent contractor and not as an employee of AMIA.
