VHS, JVC/Panasonic (1976-7)
VHS stands for Video Home System. The home video cassette which cost less, played longer, and was considered more portable than its rival Betacam. The format suffers from a very severe picture deterioration on subsequent generations of copies. Other tapes that look like this: VHS-C, VHS-HQ. The miniaturized VHS-C is for use in home camcorders; it plays in home VHS VCRs with an adapter. Lower risk. However, if the tape itself is older than 10 years, it should be considered for recopying.
