zinc white

Zinc oxide (ZnO), a permanent white pigment produced by a flame process in high temperature furnaces. It is used as a white pigment in making water colors and imparting opacity and color to paper. Because of its ability to pick up, retain, and release electrostatic charges, it is also used in the manufacture of certain copying papers. While zinc white is the whitest of all pigments, it lacks the opacity of a pigment such as titanium dioxide; however, it is also less expensive. (17 )
