vaseline
A trade name for soft paraffin. Yellow and white
varieties are produced, consisting of semi-solid,
partly translucent mixtures of hydrocarbons of the
paraffin series ranging from C 15 H
32 to C 20 H 42 .
White vaseline is sometimes used to make gold leaf
adhere to the surface of leather before
application of the tool. Under no circumstances
should it be applied to leather as a dressing. (235 , 335 )
