unbleached sulfite pulp

A tan or brown paper pulp that requires 2.5 to 4.5% chlorine to bleach it to a suitable white color. Characteristics expected of this type of pulp include softness, absorbency, cleanliness, and brightness. Peroxide is sometimes used in a single stage or final stage of bleaching to gain brightness and improve brightness stability. (17 , 98 )
