stub ( stubbed )

1. That part of an original leaf which is left after most of it has been cut away from its conjugate leaf. See also: CANCEL (1) . 2. A narrow strip of paper or linen sewn between sections of a book for the purpose of attaching plates, maps, etc. A book which has had stubs bound in is said to be stubbed.
