strike in

The relative penetration of a liquid into a material. The term is generally used with reference to printing, where it refers to the absorption of the ink vehicle into the paper. Newspaper ink "dries" by means of strike in (absorption). Strike in, however, may not be desirable as the absorbed ink may result in SHOW THROUGH . (17 )
