sodium chlorite

The sodium salt of chlorous acid (HClO 2 ). Sodium chlorite (NaClO 2 ), an oxidizing agent, is used for bleaching and the delignification of wood pulp, dyeing, and other purposes. When an acid is added to an aqueous solution of sodium chlorite, it liberates chlorine dioxide.
