shaving machine

A machine used to shave part or all of the flesh side of a tanned skin. The shaving cylinder consists of spiral blades set in a revolving cylinder. The portion of the skin to be shaved is fed between a bolstered backing roll and the shaving cylinder, with the flesh side facing the cylinder. The skin is forced against the revolving knife blades and moves forward until stopped by the operator. The same area can be fed into the machine repeatedly so as to reduce its thickness gradually.
