setting the caps
The process of adjusting the leather at the head
and tail of the spine of a book so as to form a
protective cap over the headbands. The caps may
also be set at an angle, usually 45°, when
there are no headbands. In blankbook binding, as
well as quarter-bound bindings with French joints,
the cap is usually molded over a length of cord
the width of the spine. See also: HEADCAP . (274 )
