pulping

The process of reducing cellulosic raw materials, e.g., pulpwood, rags, straw, esparto, reclaimed papers, etc., to a condition suitable for further processing into paper materials, or for chemical conversion into some other cellulosic product. Pulping may vary from a simple mechanical action to complex digesting sequences and may be done in batches or by means of continuously operating equipment. (17 , 72 , 320 )
