polyvinyl alcohol

A polymer obtained by alcoholysis with methanol of POLYVINYL ACETATE .

The polymer is compounded with glycol plasticizers to give thermoplastic compositions that are available in the form of clear films, sheeting, and other sections, as well as monofilaments. These materials are all distinguished by their elastomeric properties, complete resistance to hydrocarbon solvents, and ready solubility in hot water (unless specially insolubilized). Polyvinyl alcohol solutions are used as sizes, in water-based adhesives, and as aqueous suspending agents. (235 )
